The Blue Line Is Scoring Too: VGK 6, PIT 2

The Golden Knights are 8-2-0. They beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-2 Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena, and the story of this game wasn't just the scoreline — it was where the goals came from. Three of Vegas's six came from defensemen. Adin Hill was steady all night. And even with Crosby and Malkin on the other bench, Pittsburgh never had a real answer.

The Blue Line Is Joining the Party

This is what makes Vegas dangerous right now. You can game-plan for Eichel. You can try to take away Stone. But when Rasmus Andersson, Noah Hanifin, and Shea Theodore are all putting pucks in the net in the same game, there is no clean defensive answer for that.

Andersson opened the scoring just 1:06 into the first period. Hanifin made it 2-0 at 4:02. Stone added a power play goal late in the first to make it 3-0 heading into the first intermission. Pittsburgh never led, never tied it, and never really threatened to.

Theodore added his goal in the second period to push it to 5-1. Three defensemen, three goals. That's a different kind of problem for opposing coaches.

Hill Does His Job

Adin Hill made 22 saves on 24 shots and played the full 60 minutes. Pittsburgh got two goals — a Crosby power play in the second and a Malkin even-strength goal in the third — but those are the kinds of goals you expect when two future Hall of Famers are on the ice. Hill didn't give them anything cheap.

When your goalie is stopping the shots he's supposed to stop and the defense is scoring goals, that's a formula that works.

Eichel and Stone, Again

Jack Eichel finished with two assists. Mark Stone had a goal and two assists for three points on the night. Both players assisted on the first two goals of the game — Andersson's and Hanifin's — which set the tone before Pittsburgh could find their footing.

Stone is now up to seven goals on the season. Eichel continues to be the engine that makes this offense run.

Trevor Connelly had a goal and an assist. Brett Howden sealed it, being awarded an with an empty-netter late in the third. Mitch Marner added two assists. This was a full-roster performance.

8-2-0. The West Is Watching.

Vegas has now won eight of their first ten games. They've beaten teams they were supposed to beat, and they've done it with balance — forwards scoring, defensemen scoring, the goalie holding the line. There's no obvious weakness to attack right now.

8-2-0. Business as usual.
